Happy coffee turns Avengers: Doomsday into eight collectible cans

Eight Avengers-themed coffee cans are turning an everyday caffeine run into a collectible hunt. Happy’s collaboration with Marvel Studios puts characters including Doctor Doom, Black Panther and Thor on tactile, high-resolution packaging rather than treating the film tie-in as a conventional advertisement.

Announced on October 8, the collection links the coffee brand co-founded by Robert Downey Jr. and Craig Dubitsky with Avengers: Doomsday, due in theaters December 18, 2026. Downey also plays Doctor Doom, giving the packaging partnership a direct connection to the film.

In this article: Eight character cans, the wider coffee collection, and why collectible packaging works.

Eight characters become eight cans

The 11-ounce ready-to-drink cans feature Black Panther, Captain America, Gambit, Mister Fantastic, Mystique, The Thing, Thor and Doctor Doom. Happy says the graphics are high-resolution and tactile, giving the cans a designed-object quality beyond a standard printed label.

The characters appear across four existing drink varieties: classic cold brew, Tahitian vanilla cold brew, vanilla latte and chocolatey chip latte. The approach keeps familiar products at the center while changing what shoppers see and might want to keep.

The collection goes beyond ready-to-drink coffee

Happy’s official collection page also shows an Avengers: Doomsday extra-caffeinated ground coffee bag. Its dark packaging and green Doctor Doom imagery extend the collaboration into a different coffee format. The brand lists the 12-ounce ground coffee as a special-edition direct-to-consumer exclusive.

The visual system uses moody greens, blacks and character artwork to make the packaging recognizable as part of the film promotion. Rather than asking customers to engage with a separate piece of merchandise, Happy puts the collectible surface directly on a product they already buy.

Retail shelves become part of the campaign

According to Happy’s announcement, the cans are rolling out through US retailers including Albertsons banners, H-E-B, Kroger, pOpshelf, Raley’s and Schnucks, alongside selected CVS and Target locations and other outlets. Availability and specific character designs vary by retailer.

That variability matters to the collectible idea. It gives the eight-design range a reason to be noticed across different shopping trips, although Happy has not released figures showing how many shoppers are collecting multiple cans or whether the collaboration has lifted sales.

The brand’s collection page also features campaign videos and product imagery, extending the same visual language beyond the physical shelf.

What marketers can learn from Happy’s collectible coffee cans

The creative principle is straightforward: give a routine purchase a second purpose. A drink can remains functional packaging, but eight distinct character designs invite attention, comparison and potentially repeat purchases without requiring a separate collectible product.

Happy also has an unusually natural connection to the movie through co-founder Downey’s role as Doctor Doom. That makes the collaboration more specific than a generic licensed wrapper. Whether that connection translates into measurable sales or engagement remains unreported.
